The TikTok Skincare Advice I Trust From Someone Who Lives Beauty

Hey beauties, April here!
Let’s talk about the skincare chaos that is on TikTok right now. One minute you’re getting a goldmine of real advice from a dermatologist, and the next, someone’s smearing garlic on their face like it’s magic. Yikes.

As a beauty influencer and content creator who lives and breathes skincare, I get how social media has opened up a whole new world of skin education. But the thing to remember is that not everything that trends is worth your skin’s trust.

That’s why I want to share how I sift through TikTok skincare, what advice I actually trust, and how you can build a routine that’s affordable, effective, and totally you.

The TikTok Skincare Scene: Why It’s a Double-Edged Sword

I love the accessibility of TikTok as it’s brought skincare talk into the mainstream. But just because someone has a ring light doesn’t mean they understand how your skin works.

I’ve seen everything from:

  • DIY “miracle cures” that do more harm than good
  • Overcomplicated routines with 15+ steps
  • Pricey product plugs with no real explanation behind them

Let me be real: skincare is personal. Results take time. And good advice should never come with filters.

As someone who’s worked in both influencer campaigns and hands-on skincare content creation, I’ve developed a radar for what’s legit and what’s just a viral moment.

My Philosophy: Skincare Should Work, Not Confuse You

On my socials and here at GlamByApril.com, I help cut through the noise and simplify what you actually need. Instead of blindly following trends, I break them down, test them, and share what truly works.

What I focus on:
Affordable, effective skincare that’s backed by science
Product reviews that explain why something works
Real results from routines built around your skin type and lifestyle

I’ve worked with brands like RMS Beauty and Milk Makeup, so I know what goes into formulating clean, effective products and what’s just clever packaging. Turning skincare science into glow-getter routines? That’s my jam.

Red Flags to Watch for on Skincare TikTok

Here’s what I always tell my audience:

  • Be skeptical of overnight miracles. Glow doesn’t happen in 24 hours.
  • Be cautious with heavily sponsored content, especially when there’s no breakdown of ingredients.
  • Don’t trust creators who never show their skin without makeup or filters.

Trust takes transparency. You’ll always see the real me in my videos with good skin days, hormonal breakouts, texture, all of it. Because skincare isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being consistent.

As someone who reviews and recommends products regularly, I take extra care to vet everything I post. If I don’t use it personally or see real results, it doesn’t go in my content.

Trends I’ve Tried So You Don’t Have To

One thing about me is that I don’t judge a trend until I’ve tested it myself. And wow! Have some of them taught me valuable lessons.

Let’s just say slugging with the wrong product is a fast track to breakouts, and not every “miracle” toner from a drugstore haul is as skin-friendly as it looks.

I’ve tested everything from ice rolling to at-home microneedling, and I break what works, what’s overhyped, and what’s just plain risky. You’ll find deep dives on things like:

  • The real deal behind glass skin
  • How to spot irritants in “clean” beauty products
  • And yes, what TikTok gets totally wrong about exfoliation

Everything I recommend is based on first-hand use and my ongoing collaboration with leading brands and experts.

My Go-To Routine: Real Skin. Real Talk.

Whether I’m prepping for a glam shoot or helping clients with their skincare journey, here’s what I stick to:

  • A gentle cleanser that respects your skin barrier
  • Hydrating serums with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or peptides
  • Sunscreen. Every. Single. Day.
  • Budget-friendly finds that perform like high-end staples

Want product recs? Check out my April’s Favorites, where I break down some of the skincare and makeup essentials I keep in rotation like:

  • Milk Makeup contour sticks
  • IT Cosmetics brushes
  • Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray
  • Kiehl’s ultra-hydrating moisturizers

These are products I’ve personally used and reviewed on camera, not just what’s trending this week.

Why You Can Trust My Advice

I’ve spent years testing products, working with beauty clients, and creating content that helps people glow smarter. I’ve partnered with trusted brands like:

  • YSL Beauty
  • Vichy Laboratoires
  • Milk Makeup
  • Paula’s Choice
  • Merit Beauty

When I post about something, it’s because I’ve researched it, worn it, and believe in it.

My content is rooted in transparency and experience and not sponsorship alone. And if a product doesn’t live up to its promise, I say so. Simple as that.
